All in a Day's Work

Went all the way down to the Spastic Children's Association School to help out my mum at the Mobile Toy Library Volunteer session there. Basically, we entertained the children with fun songs and simple games such as tossing hand-made toys.

Yilinn invited me to join her in a Citibank-YMCA Youth for Causes project, a programme which allows you to help others while developing leadership, project management and entrepreneurial skills at the same time. Will be going down for an introductory forum on Saturday.

Tommorrow has been set aside for Loren's Network Marketing introduction session. I'll see what I can make out of the hype that has consumed many of my brethen.

A new study released by the CDC is described in news reports as follows:

The death toll from obesity is less than a third of the government's previous estimate, researchers are reporting today, contradicting warnings that poor diet and physical inactivity are overtaking smoking as the leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States.

A study by respected researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute found that being obese accounted for 112,000 deaths in 2000, far fewer than the estimate of 400,000 deaths in a separate CDC study published last year.

Oops! Almost 300,000 extra deaths mistakenly attributed to obesity? This certainly says something about the current state of research on public health topics.

Waiter Rant

Goddamn Viagra," the matron whines, "Makes old goats think they're 25."

"Why don't they make a Viagra for women?" the other wife laments.

Staring at the canoodling couple her husband sighs, "They've already made something for you girls."

"Oh yeah, what's it called?" his wife shoots back. Find out what it's called! (more...)
